Hatchet Ridge windfarm, Burney Ca.

My husband and I had the opportunity to photograph the Hatchet Ridge wind farm September 13th 2010 in Burney Ca.   It was built by Pattern Energy Group, LP.  The trip to the top of Mount Burney for some shots was intense with the high winds and view!  What a neat experience!  And to top it all off... 3 of my images will be featured on the cover of  North American Wind Power for the October/November issue :)

I think this outhouse (on top of Mt. Burney) has got to be one of the best "outhouse" views ive seen lol  And with the super high winds it surely could be an exciting potty adventure :)
Unfortunately me and outhouses dont mix (its a long story lol) so I didnt get to take in the Whole... experience haha!  But I am sure many have, including the ranger who has to be up there every day :)

The windmills total 44 and are about 300ft. tall. For more technical information visit Patterns page about Hatchet Ridge here.

Anyone can go visit the windfarm, you just have to sign in with the guard.  Its a really neat feeling to be standing below one of them while they are spinning in the wind.  Here is some video I shot of that :)

For larger view of images just click on them :)

This first panoramic you see below was photographed for a wall mural that is to be 19x9 feet.  So it is comprised of 27 high resolution images stitched together.  You can see the windfarm on the left and Mt. Shasta on the right, below is one of Burneys mills.

Lake Siskiyou's Box Canyon Dam in Mt. Shasta Ca.

My Husband Zach and I had an amazing tour of Box Canyon

Dam on Friday June 18th and toted the children along.

Thanks go out to Todd Cory, one of its operators for providing us the opportunity to share the Dam with the world. Todd has been working their since 1999 and displays so much knowledge and pride in its operations and history! We enjoyed every aspect and detail along the way. Here it is through mine and Zachs photo journalistic eye... Public tours are not available at this time...

Todd is also the founder and owner of Mount Shasta Energy Services. You can visit his page here and learn more about what he offers. http://www.facebook.com/shastatodd?v=wall&story_fbid=103045103078921#!/pages/Mount-Shasta-CA/Mount-Shasta-Energy-Services/305074483863?ref=ts&ajaxpipe=1&__a=23

Below are some comments and notes pulled from the images I posted on facebook... Good to know stuf :)

Box Canyon Dam is a concrete gravity dam on the Sacramento River forming Lake Siskiyou in the Shasta National Forest of Siskiyou County, California. Built in 1964 to create Lake Siskiyou, a recreation project.

The dam stands 191 ft from river bottom to the top of spill way. and about 200 ft thick at the bottom. this dam does not need the canyon wall for support just the weight of concrete alone can hold back the lake.

During the time these pictures were taken in late May of 2010, the lake level was about 192 ft spilling 1 ft over the spill way.

The spillway at the bottom of the dam was built in 1986 to house the new hydroplant/power house underneath it, which you will get to see more of as soon as we make our way down...

Kids used to throw bowling balls off the dam back in the day. I sure hope they dont anymore lol. Anyways, some divers had went down to inspect erosion in 1995 Among their normal report they also reported sighting alot of strange looking rocks? Which the operators knew were broken bowling balls!

I apologize for them being out of order... Blogger hasnt quite developed the ease of picture management yet :)
